Art Windsor-Essex (AWE) is in the process of transitioning to a new Collections Management Software, Axiell, and requires assistance in refining and updating their collections data. The goal of this project is to ensure that all collections information is accurate, comprehensive, and ready for migration to the new system. This involves preparing detailed image descriptions and alt text for artworks, which will enhance accessibility and user engagement. Additionally, the project will involve collaborating with AWE staff to identify, refine, and organize data sets related to the collection. By attaching related collections information to digitized files, the project aims to create a cohesive and well-documented digital archive that will facilitate easier access and management of the collection.

Deliverables

Art Windsor-Essex (AWE) is the largest gallery in southwestern Ontario. With a mission to inspire and engage the community through art, AWE offers exhibitions, educational programs, and events year round. The gallery features two floors of gallery space, highlighting historical Canadian art, contemporary works, and Indigenous art. AWE's collection of over 4,000 artworks is shared through onsite exhibitions and public art programs like Look Again! Outside which situates reproductions from the collection in over 50 locations throughout Windsor and Essex county.
Visitors to the gallery can take advantage of both digital and in-person tours, as well as comfortable spaces to rest and the best view of the Detroit skyline from anywhere.
