Sustainable Action Platform Development
The Community of Guardians (CoGs) is on a mission to create a powerful platform that enables individuals to take meaningful action towards sustainability. The project aims to develop a web-based application using Node.js and React, which will serve as a hub for resources, community engagement, and actionable steps to promote environmental and social responsibility. The goal is to empower users globally to learn about sustainability and implement changes in their daily lives. This project provides an opportunity for learners to apply their software development skills in a real-world context, contributing to a high-impact product that addresses pressing global issues. The team will work through the entire software development lifecycle, including design, analysis, prototyping, development, testing, and support.
Website UI / UX Design & Prototype
Our company would like help designing our current website. We are always on the lookout for innovative and fresh UI and UX ideas that will help our users. This will involve: Conducting background research on our existing web application for the product. We are happy to provide a walkthrough and other resources to help bring them up to speed. Identifying key areas of our current website and what areas of focused might return the best results in a redesign. Learning and using various software design tools. We strongly recommend students learn how to use Figma as this is the latest and greatest tool currently available. Creation of a screen by screen UX / UI prototype of a web application which can be used on all major browsers and be mobile friendly Conducting UX / UI testing with real potential users potentially involving paper prototypes or other software tools to support this
New Product Marketing
The Community of Guardians is launching a Nationwide Post-Secondary Launch for Action which aims to localize the SDGs in post secondary communities all across Canada; we aim to facilitate the advancement, measurement and reporting of SDGs as our main objective. We will do this via the in tandem launch of our social learning hub where verified knowledge experts will have a place to share science lessons in plain language alongside an actionable challenge that members who join can choose to accept and complete in their own communities that action the SDGs. We would like to revamp our marketing for this project launch. Together with our marketing team, we would like students to design new promotional material for this new product. Based on our insights and additional research, students will develop promotional marketing materials for our existing media and make recommendations on alternative media to consider. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our target market, products and services. Assessing our existing marketing strategy and efforts. Recommending marketing tactics to promote our new product such as exclusive previews and introductory offers. Designing promotional material for various media. Financial & Business Plan updates
We are a federally incorporated nonprofit who is getting ready to launch and actively seeking funding. We have a business plan that we created upon inception but it is not very accurate and we were hoping someone could help us budget a more realistic one for our launch and requests for funding. With any launch, having a financial plan is one of the keys to success, and we would like to involve students in creating one for our venture. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Learning about our business strategy from various employees to become familiar with our goals, mission, and products. Creating forecasts using Excel (or another financial software) for sales in the first year of operation as well as an income projection (conservative and aggressive). Working with our team to develop an expense budget. Conducting a break-even analysis timeline using financial projections. Reporting on projected assets and liabilities. Including visual comparisons such as graphs and charts to show the differences between the conservative and aggressive income projection.
