The Centre will house our existing programs and services for our members including: the hospice standards program; hospice accreditation; best practice guides; a quality & impact measurement platform; interest groups; and learning and training programs for hospice staff and volunteers. Additionally, we will explore opportunities to develop new programs and services for our individual and organizational members and to market our programs and services outside of Ontario. Projects can include (projects will be scaled to 80 hours of work): Support the creation/analysis of business cases and plans Gather user/member feedback via surveys, interviews, and focus groups and analyze findings Develop key performance indicators for new product/services Conduct external benchmarking Position Qualifications: Graduate level training in business, health administration or similar Interest in health care, knowledge of hospice palliative care is an asset Project management training or experience Strong qualitative and quantitative analytic and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to work with cross functional teams and all management levels Highly motivated and takes initiative, while holding oneself accountable Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills Excellent organizational, time management and office management skills

Our organization is in the early stages of redesigning our website (hpco.ca) and switching to a new platform. We are looking for a team of students to design a new website to optimize the user experience. Expected tasks include: Review and evaluate existing website structure. Science Communication

Number of individual students required: 1 We are in the early stages of developing a Research and Knowledge Translation Program to better support the needs of our stakeholders and members (particularly visiting and residential hospices) and are looking for students to support some early Science Communication activities. Students will be able to identify and develop projects that align with their skills and interests and HPCO needs. A sample of potential project opportunities include: Develop, implement and evaluation strategies to engage members and stakeholders in research knowledge uptake Review HPCO’s existing communication channels and identify opportunities to enhance communication of research results relevant to our members Develop templates and processes for HPCO to communicate research results Identify research projects, articles, or findings relevant to our stakeholders/members and develop communication strategies and tactics specific to our target audience Support the communication needs of our Community Research Collaborative Community of Practice The student is expected to work with their assigned supervisor to scope out a project that can be planned and executed within their placement timeframe. The specific deliverables will vary based on the project, but generally, this will include: Project management from project design to execution Engagement with appropriate stakeholders Meet with the supervisor on a regular basis Communicate challenges and barriers to assigned supervisor and work collaboratively to identify solution Deliver finalized project within the mutually agreed to timelines Students are expected to have some graphic design skills and experience.

Number of individual students required: Up to 2 Our organization needs some branding and graphic design help! We are looking for students that can help amplify what makes us unique and create better messaging for our brand and products and services. This would include identifying areas of improvement and developing a plan for better promotion and brand awareness. This project may combine research, data analysis, graphic design, prototyping, one-page creations and more! We are developing a Centre for Excellence with a goal of fostering excellence in hospice palliative care in Ontario. One of the goals of the Centre is to leverage our intellectual property and scale our products and services to the benefit of hospice organizations across Canada. To support this goal, we need to update and refine our marketing materials for various programs and services, including: hospice standards program; hospice accreditation; quality & impact measurement platform; and learning and training programs for hospice staff and volunteers. We believe this project will involve using graphic design tools like to design prototypes that can be implemented into our marketing collateral. Students will work with our staff team (our program and service experts) as well as marketing communications students or consultants.

Opportunities will be customized to the student’s interest and may include: A. Support further development of our Hospice Metrics Platform Develop and support the work of an informatics advisory committee Identify and develop new indicators to add to the Metrics Platform Review use of the Metrics Platform by organizational members and develop and implement strategies to increase use B. QUALITY HOSPICE PALLIATIVE CARE COALITION OF ONTARIO (QHPCCO): The QHPCCO is a group of Senior Level Leaders across 22 provincial organizations/associations or academic centres with an interest or role in the planning or delivery of quality hospice palliative care for all Ontarians. Coalition members support the principle of quality hospice palliative care for all Ontarians and participate in the decision-making and initiatives of the Coalition to the extent of their ability and resources. The Coalition's primary mandate is to act as an advocate for quality hospice palliative care for all Ontarians. PLACEMENT SUMMARY – QHPCCO PROJECT COORDINATOR: Hospice Palliative Care Ontario is the Secretariat for the QHPCCO. The Coalition meets quarterly. It has several projects and activities stemming from recommendations in the Declaration of Partnership and Commitment to Action report, which is the provincial blueprint document for hospice palliative care in Ontario. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide project coordination and support for the overall work of the Coalition as they: • Act on behalf of member groups in consultations with the provincial government, other levels of government, and other organizations on the provision of quality hospice palliative care. • Gather information from members for the purpose of preparing briefs, discussion papers and position documents for advocacy and consultation. • Disseminate information to members. • Consult with members on major policy directions and opportunities. • Contribute to public education and raising public awareness about hospice palliative care issues. • Contribute to other educational initiatives as needs are identified. • Act as an information clearinghouse on hospice palliative care issues within the bounds of its resources. • Communicate positions and news about hospice palliative care issues to the media. • Engage with researchers on hospice palliative care issues as resources permit, support knowledge translation and disseminate the results of its research to members.

HEALTH CARE CONSENT ADVANCE CARE PLANNING (HCC ACP) : HPCO has led the Health Care Consent Advance Care Planning (HCC ACP) Ontario strategy since 2011. As such, HPCO has recently been mandated in the Ontario Palliative Care Network Annual Workshop to continue to develop and update materials for patients, caregivers, substitute decision makers, and clinical health care providers to engage in Advance Care Planning Conversations, Goals of Care Discussions and Health Care Consent in alignment with Ontario’s legal landscape, and the Health Quality Ontario (Ontario Health) Palliative Care Quality Standards. PLACEMENT SUMMARY – HCC ACP PROJECT COORDINATOR: HPCO accomplishes this goal through a broad and expert HCC ACP Community of Practice (CoP). It consists of a Leadership Advisory Team, Clinical Advisory Team, Regional Champions, Organizational Champions, General Membership, Lead Trainer Program, and several working groups including a cross sector of provincial associations, a research working group, and a pediatric interest group. The CoP utilizes the Speak Up Ontario Website as its way to communicate Ontario compliant content, resources, education, webinars, tools and materials to Health Service Providers, Non-Health Care Professionals as well as Individuals and Families. It is the number one provincial source for information about HCC ACP in Ontario.
